Tom Furlong has been with Harvard Group International since 2012 where he leads the firm’s Energy and Corporate Governance search practices. Tom has over 20 years of experience successfully handling executive and management level searches in the US, Asian, and European markets. He is able to leverage his diverse search background to solve needs for top performing talent with a variety of roles extending from Board Director to Key Individual Contributor. In addition to his search experience, he held various North American sales and sales leadership positions during a 13-year career with Novartis.
Tom applies determination, recruiting process knowledge, and understanding of corporate cultures to fuel his success in working with clients ranging in size from multi-national conglomerates to startup organizations with fewer than 20 employees. He has a 100% completion record with retained search projects while exceeding HGI’s high ratio of diversity candidate placements. Over the past decade, he has focused on search projects throughout the Oil & Gas value chain along with Board, Governance, General & Staff Counsel openings in multiple industries.
The main contributing factor to Tom’s success in the search industry comes from placing emphasis on the candidate experience. He freely offers job search and career advice upon request; his input has assisted many connections on furthering their professional development. He was an early advocate for Gender Diversity at the executive and corporate board level and has continued to be a thought leader by authoring articles, giving speeches, and podcast appearances on diversity, ESG, and talent attraction topics.
Tom, a native of Atlanta, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University. He and his wife Robin live in Marietta, Georgia. They have previously lived in Japan and Ireland, where he was a trailing spouse supporting Robin’s international career with a global IT company.
