ROLE OVERVIEW
The Payroll Administrator will be primarily responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for front office staff and weekly payroll for employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement. This role requires someone who holds the utmost respect for confidentiality, understands the dynamics of professional sports organizations, and has a customer-service mindset. The Payroll Administrator will be part of the broader payroll team and report directly to the Payroll Manager. This role will be cross trained to assist with payroll for other affiliated entities as needed. The ideal candidate has prior experience in professional sports, particularly with union payrolls. Workday experience is highly preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review, verify and audit the accuracy of payroll and timekeeping records in Workday for all hourly, salaried and non-exempt employees. This also includes weekly payroll for employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement.
- Run payroll processes; follow documented processing steps, which include detailed auditing of information; and transmit payroll.
- Contact employees and managers regarding any payroll discrepancies and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Assist with garnishment processing and prepare payroll records for legal requests.
- Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and collaborate with Human Resources on any cross-functional processes.
- Ensure all expense reimbursement reports are uploaded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Record payroll and benefit journal entries in the General Ledger system.
- Audit quarterly and year-end tax documents, including W2s and 1095-Cs.
- Complete month-end close procedures for all payroll-related items.
- Assist with payroll-related audit responsibilities.
- Serve as a resource on benefits-related matters for covered employees and relevant departments.
REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role within a professional sports or high-profile organizational setting.
- At least one year of experience working directly with high-visibility individuals and/or their representatives.
- Must be available to assist with inquiries after hours and on weekends.
- Multi-jurisdictional tax reporting knowledge required.
- Able to perform complex and specialized payroll calculations and support functions.
- Mastered knowledge of complex payroll systems; Workday highly preferred.
- Exhibit proper discretion in dealing with sensitive and highly confidential information.
- Detailed and deadline-oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Committed to outstanding customer service, building relationships, and excellent interpersonal skills; able to see multiple points of view.
- Must be able to work on-site at a primary downtown office location, with occasional travel to a secondary facility located northeast of the metro area during the off-season.
COMPENSATION
A meaningful compensation package will be developed for the successful candidate. Relocation consideration will be given to exceptional candidates outside the Atlanta area.
