The Inside Sales Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the division by managing customer relationships, processing orders, and driving revenue through proactive outreach. This individual serves as a primary point of contact for distributors and contractors east of the Mississippi, ensuring a seamless customer experience from inquiry to delivery. The role combines customer service, order management, outbound sales activity, and cross-functional coordination with Operations, Outside Sales, and independent reps. The ideal candidate brings experience in building materials—preferably metals—and thrives in a fast-paced, relationship-driven environment. This person is detail-oriented, personable, and capable of managing both inbound needs and outbound growth opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all inbound customer communication for assigned territory (east of the Mississippi), including pricing inquiries, product questions, delivery updates, and order-related issues.
- Enter, process, and monitor customer orders in Oracle with speed and accuracy; ensure all work orders are complete and align with delivery expectations.
- Conduct outbound sales calls to new and existing customers to support Outside Sales Representatives (OSRs) and independent reps across assigned regions.
- Serve as a key liaison between customers, OSRs, independent reps, and internal departments, ensuring timely communication and issue resolution.
- Collaborate closely with Operations to confirm product availability, verify inventory, track production schedules, and resolve any delivery or fulfillment challenges.
- Monitor daily shipment activity—primarily through Ryder—and proactively address delivery delays, special requests, or customer concerns.
- Support pricing updates, investigate pricing discrepancies, and work with Sales leadership to ensure customers receive accurate and competitive information.
- Develop a strong understanding of full building products portfolio, including lath, metal products, and concrete-related materials.
REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of experience in inside sales within building materials; metals, steel studs, lath, concrete forming, or stucco/plastering background strongly preferred.
- Familiarity working with distributors, contractors, and construction-related decision makers.
- Experience with ERP systems required (Oracle strongly preferred); understanding of CRM platforms a plus.
- Skilled in managing multiple conversations, providing updates, and keeping stakeholders informed.
- Comfortable managing high order volume, tracking details, and preventing errors in order entry.
- Confident in making outbound calls, supporting territory growth, and strengthening customer relationships.
